This Giving Tuesday, Give a Lifetime of Creativity

So far in 2023, 218 young students have taken art classes of all kinds from The Santa Cruz Mountains Art Center. Some have taken our after-school classes at the center, others have taken them at SLV Elementary or Middle School, or through Ocean Grove Charter School.

While we strive to keep our class fees affordable, there are members of the community who are struggling to make ends meet, and without a scholarship our classes would be out of reach. For this reason SCMAC’s donor-funded Youth Scholarship Fund was created.

One of the reasons we’ve been able to provide classes to so many students is because of a variety of scholarship sources. GRO Community funded classes for 9 students. And we were able to cover the fees for 17 students through our own scholarship fund. This was money we’d held for several years, plus a donation from Brenda Berg in honor of her late husband, who used to teach with her during our summer program. The money raised during Community Day at Wild Roots in Felton almost was almost half the fund. In addition, The Valley Women’s Club and Liberty Bank donated money for materials.

We’re immensely grateful for the generosity that helped us fulfill our mission to spread the love of art. And we’re firm believers that starting young is the best way to do that.

But sadly, there was more demand than we had money to cover. In addition, we’re making plans to enlarge our on-campus classes to Scotts Valley. We anticipate the need for financial support will grow as well.

Support Young Artists

We don’t want to turn kids away. So, this Giving Tuesday, we’re asking you to donate to our Scholarship Fund. Our fundraising target of $3750 will match what we spent out of the fund in 2023. The more we raise, the more kids can come to class.

For $39.00, you can cover a student for one class session. Sessions are typically 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the class and location. So that would be between $156.00 and $234.00 for a full session, plus a $10 materials fee.

There are a variety of ways you can donate:

  1. Make an individual gift in any amount
  2. Give a gift donation to a friend or family member, we’ll be happy to give you a gift card decorated by one of our young artists
  3. Donate in memory of an art lover in your life
  4. Ask your employer to donate, or to match your donation

Just use the donation form on this page. We thank you. And the young artists we support thank you too!
