SCM Art Center facade 2020

To all our members and supporters…

We would like to update you on the status of the Santa Cruz Mountains Art Center. The Art Center survived the horrendous fire that so devastated our beautiful San Lorenzo Valley, Bonny Doon, and North Coast areas. Our hearts go out to all the people, including some of our members, who lost their homes. We know that many people are are still in shock and trying to recover. This has been a hard year for our community and the country as a whole.

The mission of the Art Center is to provide opportunities for people in our community to enjoy artistic activities. We think all the lovely and artful expressions of thanks and gratitude to the people who helped fight fires show that making art impacts our daily lives.

The Art Center continues to be closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. At the October Board Meeting the Board of Directors will be discussing our plans for the next three months. Any planned in-person activities will be subject to changing county guidelines, in very small groups and preferably outdoors, weather permitting.

We are trying to help artists sell their work by displaying artwork in our windows and by hosting virtual galley shows on our website. We have one virtual gallery exhibit on our website now, and will have another before the end of the year.

We have hosted one very successful, online class for youth and adults so far and would like to offer more. If you, or anyone you know, would be interested in teaching an art-related, online class, please contact us to discuss.

The Santa Cruz Mountains Art Center wants to be of help to the community at this time. Anyone having ideas of how we might help with our outdoor space and art supplies, please contact us by emailing  info@mountainartcenter.org or calling Susan Archibald at (831) 336-2078.

Thanks to all of you for your support and patience during these trying times,

The Santa Cruz Mountains Art Center
