ART IN THE REDWOODS
Santa Cruz Mountains Art Center offers the premier art classes in the San Lorenzo Valley, the heart of the redwoods and the local art world. With a long history of providing arts programming to Santa Cruz County, art classes provide a chance for young people ages 7 – high school to survey different artistic movements and develop their own craft. All levels are welcome—the only requirement is a sincere interest in the visual arts! Classes are held at the Local Schools: Art After School Programand at the Art Center’s 9341 Mill St. location in Ben Lomond. The Art Center is equipped with a studio classroom, gallery, and offers a wide range of art classes with our talented and creative instructors, all professional artists in diverse fields.
Our goal is to provide young artists with opportunities that build self-esteem through art and friendship. We also provide students with a variety of experiences to explore their artistic creativity! Students work on individual and collaborative projects in disciplines such as painting and drawing, cartoon art, ceramics, printmaking, and art-meets-science (STEAM) classes. Students will learn to feel comfortable expressing themselves artistically and within a group setting. Students will have an opportunity to participate in critiques, and learn how to present and discuss their work.

GRO Community, a newly formed 501(c)3 non-profit organization native to the Santa Cruz Mountains community, is offering scholarships for after school programs to youth ages 5-17, based on financial need. Find out more and apply for a scholarship to our classes by clicking the button below.

Make your application as far as possible in advance of the beginning of class, because GRO will not pay retroactively, meaning after the class starts. They need at least a week to process your application before the first class.
You may apply for scholarships to more than one class at a time. If you know that you want to take several classes, you can stack them in one application.

The Santa Cruz Mountains Art Center recognizes the importance of a variety of art experiences for the well-rounded development of children, for enriching local communities and for a more humane global community. All Art Center youth art classes incorporate age appropriate SCMAC Standards and California State Content Standards for the Visual Arts. Content standards were designed to encourage the highest achievement of every student, by defining the knowledge, concepts, and skills that students should acquire at each grade level.
